Scientific research has shown the correlation of good bowel function with the function of other organs and systems, but also with mental health and brain function. When the gut does not function properly, problems are caused throughout the body, such as indigestion, constipation / diarrhea, fatigue but also behavioral disorders, stress, depression and lethargy.
As a Specialist in Bioresonance applications, Homeopath and Consultant of Orthomolecular preparations, I suggest the use of probiotics in the majority of cases that I face in the "Bio-exelixis" Centers. But today, in my capacity as a Dentist, I will emphasize something that most people ignore and therefore neglect. And this is the use of probiotic preparations to maintain oral health and treat oral infections.
The oral microbial flora is as complex as the flora of the gastrointestinal tract and vagina. The oral cavity hosts a wide range of bacterial species, (with more than 800 species) including: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus re, others. A biofilm is a membrane where microbial colonies grow, multiply, and mature. A balanced microbial environment is important for oral health and the prevention of periodontal disease.
The balance and diversity of the biofilm can be easily disturbed (inadequate oral hygiene, poor diet, stress) and the prevalence of pathogens can lead to various oral health problems, including dental caries and periodontal disease.
Caries is a disease caused by the presence of microbes that produce acids from the metabolism of sugars contained in food, creating a low pH, an environment that can cause corrosion and decalcification of enamel (demineralization). This results in the formation of cavities on the surface of the tooth.
Periodontal disease falls into two categories: gingivitis, which is an inflammation of the gums, and periodontitis, which is a progressive inflammation that progresses to the depths of the periodontal pockets, affecting all the supporting tissues of the teeth.
Intake of probiotics and specifically Lactobacillus reuteri affects the microbial flora of the oral cavity locally, as it competes with pathogenic bacteria in terms of binding sites and nutrients. In addition, Lactobacillus reuteri produces a substance called "reuterin", which directly acts on pathogenic bacteria, inhibiting their growth and thus preventing infections with exogenous pathogenic bacteria.
So based on my experience as a Dentist, taking probiotics daily, restores a good balance in the oral cavity and re-creates a healthy microbial ecosystem. I think it is a good additional way to control the conditions of the mouth, to reduce caries and inhibit the growth of periodontal pathogens.
