Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that includes, as of June 2019, 37 species that infect humans, cats, birds, dogs, cattle and pigs. It got its name because of the villi on the external membrane, which is shaped like a crown.

How can I get coronavirus?

You can get a coronavirus infection all year long. The peak incidence occurs in winter and early spring. Infection is possible by close and prolonged contact with a sick person. At risk are people with weakened immune systems, chronic lung diseases, diabetes and kidney failure. Infection is spread by airborne droplets and contact.

What are the signs of infection?

Symptoms of coronavirus infection are similar to the symptoms of regular flu: fever, cough, shortness of breath, general malaise, and diarrhea.

In severe illness, respiratory arrest may occur.
